Kanita mcgahee, HBCU Portal program manager

Kanita M. McGahee has over 20 years of experience with college students and young adults. Her experience includes her years of service as Minister of College students, Adjunct Chaplain and Student Support Specialist. She has a Master of Divinity Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Gardner Webb University and has received a certification in Mental Health First Aid  for Youth & Young Adults.

Kanita’s passion for college students has been evidenced in a number of program development and outreach services.  As one of the university chaplains at Johnson C. Smith University,  she created and developed The Care Closet (a free hygiene store for students), a prayer and meditation room and helped facilitate campus worship services, workshops, bible studies and community service opportunities. Beyond the scope of chaplaincy she has conducted workshops for First Year Freshman Students, preparing them for their first year of college, has counseled and advised students in areas of financial aid, academic advising, and mental health wellness.  In addition, she has led and conducted retreats specifically for youth, college students and young adults.

In addition to her professional  and ministerial experience, she serves as a volunteer for the Donnie Shell Foundation and serves as a member of the Scholarship Review Committee with The A.L. Harper Foundation.


 
 

Sandra J. Lee, Finance Manager

Sandra J. Lee is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. She has one son, one daughter and is a grandmother of two beautiful girls.

Sandra has 20+ years of experience in tax, accounting and administration. While working as Audit Administrator for a CPA firm, she also serves as Financial Manager for a local homeowners association.

Service and ministry is very important to Sandra. She is an active ministry leader in her church, currently serving on the Board of Trustees, as Choir Director/President, and in various other ministries. In 2017, Sandra led her church to exceed a goal of $50,000 in twelve weeks, which further highlights her leadership qualities.

In addition to her work and ministry experience, Sandra finds time to volunteer for the nonprofit, Generation Monarch, which mentors underserved girls in Hickory, NC and surrounding areas. She is Vice-President of the Board of Directors and appreciates the opportunity to pour into the lives of young ladies so they tap into their strengths to become powerful women of tomorrow.

The most impactful position held for 7 years was as a Treasurer with The A.L. Harper Foundation. As an “HBCU Mom”, Sandra has enjoyed serving with others on the Board to support HBCU scholars.
